1999 Dekerf Team ST
Chris Dekerf was an established frame builder at the Canadian brand Rocky Mountain before striking out on his own as Dekerf Cycle Innovations. For 30 years Chris has been building custom frames in steel and titanium with a very clean aesthetic. The Team ST is an ultra-light frame made of TIG-welded Reynolds 853 tubing with a softtail design that provides about 20 mm of suspension travel in the rear. This is enough to take the edge off bumps, but perhaps more importantly aides significantly in climbing traction by keeping the rear wheel tracking the terrain more closely. The rear wishbone seatstay features the design signature of interlocking mitered tubes, while the Dekerf handlebar stem combo is made of titanium and uses a unique three strut design. This example is built with a crankset and seatpost from Syncros, another Canadian brand. Fancy parts from Chris King, Avid, and White Brothers round out a very nice package that is a pleasure to ride at top speed.
