1994 Clark-Kent 650c Road
Pat Clark and Dean Kent started their eponymous bike company in Denver, CO making steel bikes but would eventually become known as master fabricators of titanium. Despite offering an array of complex models and even dabbling in bonded metal matrix composites, Clark-Kent remained a custom builder answering the needs of high-performance cyclists often with special requirements. This small 44 cm road bike was built with 650c wheels to accommodate a strong rider of small stature. To achieve a short 51 cm top tube without the rider's foot contacting the front wheel required the seat tube to have a steep angle of about 78 degrees. This geometry was well suited to the triathlons for which the bike was used. The bike features components from two Denver-area manufactures: Sampson pedals and bottom bracket, and Ariel cartridge bearing hubs.
