1992 Litespeed Mountain
Litespeed was started in 1986 by David Lynskey and his family in Tennessee, following his passion for cycling and their experience as Southeast Machine, which specialized in working exotic metals. Litespeed quickly became known for offering a dizzying array of frame designs, including some early full suspension models at a time when a titanium frame alone was exotic enough. Litespeed also served as a contract manufacturer for many other brands, often producing the titanium model that sat at the top of a company's lineup. Oftentimes it was apparent that a frame had been produced by Litespeed based on the dropout design, brake bosses, or the characteristic aluminum sizing-sleeve in the seattube.
Based on the location of the original owner of this bike, it is built with a host of parts from the state of Michigan. This includes ultra-light hubs and skewers from Nukeproof, a fork from Slingshot, and a bottle cage and rims from Velocity. At the time, Velocity was an Australian company, but their US office was located in Grand Rapids. Eventually, Velocity USA began producing rims in the US, but in 1992 their first rim called the Aero was imported from Australia. The bottle cage was Velocity's first product, known as the Velocage. The Mavic 840 road derailleur as used on a mountain bike was a quirky touch at the time to save weight. Overall, the bike is very light with a total weight of X pounds.
