1989 Steve Potts Signature
Few if any frame builders can claim to have made mountain bikes for 40 years straight, but Steve Potts is certainly one of them. From painstaking fillet-brazed signature frames such as this, to the legendary TIG welded WTB Phoenix, to modern frames of titanium, Steve has just about done it all, in quantity, and at the highest level. It's no wonder that Charlie Cunningham refers to him as Stevie Wonder. This bike was owned by a Marin local who discovered mountain biking at an influential time in his youth that kept him out of trouble and on a productive path. This bike and a similar one before it were raced and ridden hard by the original owner. For many years a strong connection existed between WTB, co-founded by Potts, and Suntour, that licensed the Grease Guard design. Fittingly, this bike features a complete Suntour XC Pro group, and brakes, hubs, bottom bracket, and handlebar from WTB. The ride is well-mannered and rock solid, such that the it stays the course through rough rock gardens that would twist and tend to divert other bikes.
