1987 Ibis Custom #418
The Ibis Custom model allowed purchasers to select from various options, including fork style, brake configuration, paint, and of course fit. This rather large 21 inch frame has a relatively short toptube of only 22.25 inches. However, the compact toptube is offset by a gargantuan stem with a 165 mm extension. Compensating for the stem is a Specialized Alloy X-3 handlebar with 18 degrees of sweep, bringing the final hand position more in line with a 130 mm stem. It appears that the stem was built with this handlebar in mind, since they are both a somewhat unique 26.0 mm clamping diameter. This Custom has a relatively muted paint scheme compared to the exotic fades with long transitions found on some Ibis bikes. The fork is a Type II, as designed by Charlie Cunningham and built by Ibis, although it doesn't make use of the Rollercam brake that Charlie also designed.
